Jo practices massage, and loves to receive good work, in the Community Referral pages, are some of the folk you dance with who are worth a visit.

I am trained in Esalen Massage (a combination of modalities, with Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, and Esalen’s own long integrative strokes, using the body, rather than technique as the guide) with additions of Cranio Sacral and Somato Emotional Release work, as well as Trigger Point, and Energy work. I continue to learn, and find fascination in all that is being discovered.

I have led a massage workshop in Bali, and love being able to share this most exquisite way of connecting with others.

To me, good massage develops a connection through listening, attending to breath, bringing in all the most profound elements of great dance: the pause, the relationship to other through connection to self, movement, repetition, and observation. Massage is more than touch of skin and release of muscle, it is contact of spirit, and it is eternally humbling and inspiring.

The work was developed at Esalen Institute in Big Sur CA which is a magnificent place to study in central California. I recommend a massage, a workshop, a retreat, an extended stay (831-667 3000 for catalog 831 667 3005 for reservations http://www.Esalen.org).

I also love languishing in hot water:

I love the baths at Esalen and we have also taught at Harbin Hot Springs. Besides reveling in the warm waters, and being utterly indulged in the watsu and water dance that was born there, the springs and grounds are lovingly maintained. I recommend a visit, a massage, a training, a retreat (800 622 2477 in CA or 707 987 2477 outside CA http://www.harbin.org).

The other part of touch...

Yes the tactile; those who love to dance are often kinesthetically centered.

there is no requirement for clothing in class, moveable comfortable clothes make sense. layers, that you can add or subtract as you get warm, and breathable clothing is good. some men bring several shirts to change into if they get too hot to bear dripping.

dance shoes also make sense; and can be found online or in a few locations in l.a. best to look online. the floor at the masonic lodge is sprung; an old dance floor, but it may be easier on your body to have shoes that either protect your arches, tender feet or your skin. you can always ask others where they got shoes that look like they might be good for you.

sometimes we have clothing swaps and people bring clothes to offer on the lawn outside the masonic lodge. bargains abound it is always fun.
